Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring my ID with me when selling metal?
Yes, a photo ID is required when selling your scrap metal. Your photo ID must have your current address and you must be at least 18 years of age to recycle scrap metal.
Do I need an appointment to visit Earthbound Recycling?
No appointment is needed. We are open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm and we operate on a first come first serve basis. Check our Contact page for directions.
How do I know what kind of metal I have?
A magnet is your best friend when it comes to identifying metal. If a magnets stick to your metal, it is steel or iron. If a magnet doesn’t stick to your metal, you most likely have copper, aluminum, brass, or stainless steel. Plumbing pipes and electrical wire are typically made from copper. Soda cans, gutters, siding, and frames can be aluminum. Bathroom fixtures are usually brass and metal kitchen sinks are commonly stainless steel.
Do I get cash when I sell metal?
The majority of metal recycling is paid in cash, but if the total of your transaction reaches $500 or more, we are required by law to write you a check. Checks can be cashed at the nearby bank we use, or you can deposit the check into your own personal checking account.
How much is my scrap metal worth?
Prices fluctuate week by week, day by day, and sometimes even hour by hour. The scrap metal market is in a state of constant fluctuation, and we’d be happy to let you know what we’re paying for the specific metal you have. Just give us a call at 636-938-1188
Do you accept appliances?
We accept washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, water heaters, exercise equipment, lawn mowers, and almost everything else that’s made of metal, but we do charge for certain appliances. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers require special handling due to refrigerants that need to be properly recovered and can be recycled for a fee of $20 each.
Do you accept junk vehicles?
We do not accept cars, but we have made special arrangements for trailers, campers, motorcycles, and any other small vehicles that are still in useable condition. Call us at 636-938-1188 as we deal with these situations on a case by case basis.
Will you pick up my recycling?
As of this time, we don’t offer any kind of curb side services, but if you get your items here, we’re more than happy to unload them for you. We want your recycling experience to be as easy as possible and we are here to help.
